Meres-Sia: Emcee
Inspired by the Roxanne Shanté battles of the 80’s, Meres-Sia Gabriel (aka Sia-Love, aka Cyndi) picked up a pencil and wrote her first rhyme at 10 years old. In high school, she became the first female MC of the Hiero collective when she joined the group Cell Dwellaz. She is the author of the bestselling poetry book “I Twirl in the Smoke” and recently produced a one-woman show about growing up in the Black Panther Party entitled “I Was There Too!” She credits Hip Hop and rhyming for helping her find her voice as a child and for continuing to give her courage as an adult.
